Hello Neighbors!
Monday’s board meeting at the residence of the Morgan’s went well, and there was plenty of room (even empty chairs!) for everyone who came. I reported that we have only a few homeowners who have yet to pay their 2025 HOA dues, and those are now trickling in. Ballots are also coming in steadily, so if you haven’t handed in or sent yours in, don’t forget you can just drop off your ballot on my patio (1037 W. Desert Hills Drive) or mail it to the HOA mailbox. Also, our annual meeting is next month! Tuesday, February 11th at 3:00 pm, with a brief social half-hour starting at 2:30 pm. At the end of the meeting, the election judges will announce our new board members who will then decide who is to fulfill which role.

We now have two homes for sale in the neighborhood, Lot #8 and Lot #85. Those are the homes of the Smith's and the Ellis’s.

The Maintenance Committee alerted us to the continuing saga with javelinas getting into yards and making a general mess of things. Please remember! It is against Arizona state law to feed the wildlife and that includes the javelina! Maintenance volunteers have noticed corn and other food amongst the rocks and plants beyond the back walls of homeowners’ homes. Please refrain from throwing your scraps there as they attract the animals who then make a big mess which must then be cleaned up by our volunteers or paid maintenance contractors. Another issue maintenance has noticed is that people are aiming their bird feeders over their back wall so the excess seed falls on the ground outside their backyard. Unfortunately, not only the birds enjoy this feast, but also other wildlife, leading to similar problems as that mentioned above. Enjoy your birds, but make sure the bird feeders are kept within your own walls. Another topic concerning maintenance is the new project they are undertaking together with the Beautification Committee, and that is the planting of rosemary to replace overgrown cacti that has become the home of snakes and rodents. Maintenance is removing these old cacti and with the assistance of the Beautification Committee they are replacing them with a type of rosemary that the U of Arizona Ag Dept has recommended. This should not only help with our snake and rodent populations, but also beautify our common areas! If you would like to donate toward the purchase of rosemary bushes (not included in this year’s budget), please contact either David Ward or Mike Cochran. If all goes well, we will likely include a line item for them next year! But it sure would be nice to get them started this year!

Some neighbors have asked what they’re supposed to do with the Recycle sticker they received with their ballot! (And if you didn’t get one, please let Jan Morgan know, we still have a few to hand out.) These stickers are to be put on your recycling container (see below) or where you find it most helpful. Republic has donated these stickers to us. So let’s make use of them and make our recycling efforts effective!

John Hadley, chair of the Audit Committee, shared the results of the Audit Report (which will be posted online at our website by the time of the Annual Meeting). All in all, it sounds like we are in good shape. Thank you, John, and thank you to our treasurer, John Morgan!

Instead of a spring potluck, this year it was decided by the Social Committee to hold a spring block party! It will be on Thursday, April 10th, with live music and a food truck. Details forthcoming!

The February Thirsty Thursday is slated for the 20th at the home of Conrad Toni and Maureen Weeks. In March it will be at the home of Mike and Judy Hudson also on the 20th! Try to keep those Thursdays free so you can join us!

Jan Morgan reported from the Green Valley Council Board of Representatives meeting that the GVC is working hard to attract more physicians to the area. They are very aware that this is a major need in Green Valley.

So as you can read, a lot of good information was shared. Thank you to all those who have been prompt with both their dues payments and in submitting their ballots! This is how an HOA keeps strong.

This is my last monthly newsletter before turning over the reins to a new president. I’ve enjoyed getting to know many of you better and I’m sure our new president will continue to keep us all well informed!

Best regards,
Ruth
